Overview

This trauma-informed yoga class is thoughtfully designed to create a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for all participants. Led by an instructor with over 20 years of general yoga teaching experience and more than 12 years specializing in trauma-informed practice, the class blends deep knowledge of movement, anatomy, and nervous system regulation with a compassionate, choice-centered approach.

Grounded and informed by current research in trauma recovery and mindfulness, this class prioritizes safety and present-moment awareness. The instructor understands how trauma can impact the body and nervous system and offers practices that support regulation without overwhelm.

Students are invited—not instructed—to explore shapes and movements, with options and modifications offered throughout. There is no hands-on adjustment. Participants are encouraged to make choices that feel right for their bodies, including opting out, resting, or adapting movements at any time. The pace is intentional and steady, with an emphasis on breath awareness, grounding techniques, and building interoceptive awareness (the ability to sense internal body cues).

There is no expectation to achieve specific poses. Instead, the focus is on cultivating a sense of safety in the body, rebuilding trust in one’s internal signals, and supporting resilience over time.
